Chelsea FC kept up their perfect start to the Premier League season with a 3-1 win against West Ham United FC but the limelight was stolen by a remarkable Everton FC comeback against Manchester United FC.
Everton scored first at Goodison Park but United led 3-1 when three minutes of added time began. However, Tim Cahill's header pulled one back and seconds later Mikel Arteta's shot deflected in off Paul Scholes to salvage a 3-3 draw.
That leaves United four points behind the reigning champions after Michael Essien scored twice and Salomon Kalou also struck at bottom side West Ham, though late on ex-Chelsea midfielder Scott Parker became the first man to score against his former club this season.
Arsenal FC remain within two points of Chelsea after beating Bolton Wanderers FC 4-1 but England's other UEFA Champions League contenders, Tottenham Hotspur FC, are 11th after drawing 1-1 with West Bromwich Albion FC, and after a week in which Spurs lost Michael Dawson and Jermain Defoe to injury, midfielder Luka Modrić left the ground on crutches.
There was also an injury blow for Defoe's fellow England striker Bobby Zamora, who is likely to be out for several months after breaking a fibula in Fulham FC's dramatic 2-1 defeat of Wolverhampton Wanderers FC.
