Paddy McCaul has been elected as the new president of the Football Association of Ireland (FAI) at the association's annual general meeting.
Having served a three-year term as vice-president, McCaul enters the presidency at an exciting time, with the Republic of Ireland team moving into their new home at the Dublin Arena – the venue, which will host this season's UEFA Europa League final, was opened earlier this month.
"It's an exciting challenge and one I very much look forward to. I've enjoyed my role as vice-president since 2007, and feel I learned a lot during that period. It's going to be a change for me, but one I'm excited about taking on," said the new FAI president.
"The FAI sees the next four or five years as crucial for the ongoing development and progression of the organisation. Obviously, we have the [stadium] move and everything that goes with it, but we also feel that the League of Ireland will see the benefits of its merger with the FAI over the next few years," he added.
