Former SV Werder Bremen playmaker Diego has returned to the Bundesliga to join VfL Wolfsburg after just one season in Serie A with Juventus.
The 25-year-old agreed a four-year contract with Steve McClaren's side late on Thursday night after the clubs agreed a fee believed to be in the region of €15m for the Brazilian. "We will achieve big things and qualify for Europe again, of that I am sure," Diego said. "I know that this team is very strong, but my role is to help make it even stronger." McClaren added: "I think the entire Bundesliga is happy that he is back."
The former Santos FC and FC Porto midfielder is well known in Germany having scored 38 goals in 84 Bundesliga games for Bremen, including the 2006/07 goal of the season with a strike from over 60 metres against TSV Alemannia Aachen. Diego left Bremen for Juve last summer after three seasons with the club, scoring five goals in 33 Serie A games in what proved to be his sole campaign with the Turin team.
