Germany defender Heiko Westermann has moved from FC Schalke 04 to last season's UEFA Europa League semi-finalists Hamburger SV.
A fee in the region of €7.5m is believed to have been paid for the 26-year-old Westermann, who has signed a four-year contract at his new club. He is expected to replace Manchester City FC-bound Jerome Boateng at right-back. The 19-times capped international missed out on a place in Joachim Löw's FIFA World Cup squad after breaking a bone in his wrist in the lead-up to the finals. Hamburg will not play in Europe this term, having finished seventh in the Bundesliga, while Schalke were runners-up and earned a UEFA Champions League group-stage slot.
