Former FC Bayern München and Germany striker Alexander Zickler has joined LASK Linz as a free agent after leaving their Bundesliga rivals FC Salzburg fresh from winning a third Austrian title.

During his five years at Salzburg, the 36-year-old Zickler was twice the Austrian league's top scorer, in 2007 and 2008, having previously won seven titles, four German Cups, the UEFA Cup and the UEFA Champions League with Bayern. LASK coach Helmut Kraft said: "We are really happy that Alex decided to join LASK. He is fully motivated and wants to show that he is still in very good shape and can score a lot of goals." The Linz side finished seventh in the ten-team Austrian league this season.
