Faroese FA president visits UEFA

The president of the Faroe Islands Football Association (FSF), Christian Andreasen, has visited UEFA's House of European Football in Nyon.

Mr Andreasen and the FSF general secretary Virgar Hvidbro held discussions with UEFA president Michel Platini, general secretary Gianni Infantino and national associations director Theodore Theodoridis.

The Faroe Islands has been a member of UEFA since 1990, and talks centred on the crucial help UEFA gives towards helping the game progress in the group of islands, which are located between Scotland's Shetland Isles and Iceland. UEFA has been able to assist the Faroe Islands though its comprehensive HatTrick programme for all the European governing body's 53 member associations.

"This is a big moment for us," said Mr Andreasen. "I have just been elected as president, so this is my first visit to UEFA. The HatTrick programme is important for an association like ours, because it helps us develop our football. Our membership of UEFA has been decisive in this, and we are very grateful to UEFA for its support.

"Interest in football in the Faroe Islands is huge," he added. "We have a population of 50,000 people, and 5,000 active football players – 10% of the population, perhaps a record. Our goal is to keep creating this interest and create better facilities – and to try to make our mark in international football."
