A day after seeing their team lose the UEFA Champions League final, FC Bayern München supporters have been lifted by the announcement that Franck Ribéry has signed a four-year contract extension with the German double winners.

The new deal ties the 27-year-old winger, who was suspended for the 2-0 defeat by FC Internazionale Milano, to Bayern until 30 June 2015. "We are delighted we have reached agreement on a contract extension with one of the world's best players," said club chairman Karl-Heinz-Rummenigge. "This is another signal of Bayern's ambitious targets for the coming years."

Ribéry joined the Bavarian outfit in July 2007 from Olympique de Marseille for a club-record fee of €25m, inspiring his side to a domestic double in his first season. "My family and I are delighted that we are staying in Munich," said the French international. "The club has become a big family for me."
