Jagiellonia Białystok are celebrating winning their first ever silverware after beating second division Pogoń Szczecin 1-0 in the Polish Cup final on Saturday.

Lithuanian international Andrius Skerla scored the only goal four minutes after half-time to secure a deserved victory for the top-flight team, who would have won by a bigger margin but for some fine saves by Pogoń goalkeeper Radosław Janukiewicz.

Janukiewicz was finally beaten by a close-range finish by defender Skerla – who had scored just once previously for the club – to ensure Jagiellonia a place in next season's UEFA Europa League. It will be the first venture into Europe for a side who had reached only one cup final previously, losing 5-2 against Legia Warszawa 21 years ago.
