Lithuanian champions FK Ekranas have ended a ten-year wait for the domestic cup by defeating FK Vėtra 2-1.
Vėtra took the lead in the 44th minute at the S. Darius & S. Girenas Stadium when Dainius Gleveckas brought down Robertas Vėževičius in the area and Tomas Ražanauskas converted the rebound after his penalty had been saved. It then took a moment of inspiration from Dominykas Galkevičius for Ekranas to finally level in the second half, the midfielder striking a long-range effort into the top corner. Buoyed by the equaliser, Ekranas struck again when Egidijus Varnas headed in a minute from time.
The victory also guarantees Ekranas the Lithuanian Super Cup by virtue of the club holding both the league and domestic cup titles. "It's very pleasing to lift the cup after a great game, especially since Ekranas had not won it for ten years," said coach Valdas Urbonas. "At half-time I tried to calm the players down and continue our game." The last time Ekranas were double winners − in 1985 − the hero of their cup final triumph was current Vėtra tactician Virginijus Liubšys.
