UEFA, the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) and Real Madrid CF will stage a press conference at the Santiago Bernabéu in Madrid on Wednesday 19 May to help mark UEFA's Grassroots Day and highlight the wide-ranging activities that serve as the build-up to the UEFA Champions League final.
The press conference will feature UEFA's technical director Andy Roxburgh, his RFEF counterpart Fernando Hierro and the Real Madrid striker Raúl González, with Luís Figo, a UEFA ambassador for grassroots football, also attending. It will take place from 12.00CET in the stadium's press conference room.
The event will take the form of a question-and-answer session following a media briefing that will cover the entire week of UEFA Champions League activities in and around the Spanish capital – starting at the broad base of grassroots football and leading up to the pinnacle of the UEFA Champions League final on Saturday 22 May.
The press conference will provide in-depth information on: the Champions Festival in the Parque del Retiro; the Young Champions tournament; the Under-18 Challenge match between FC Bayern München and FC Internazionale Milano (to be played later that day at the Estadio Alfredo Di Stéfano in Valdebebas); the presentation of a mini-pitch to the city of Madrid; the Ultimate Champions all-star match; the UEFA Women's Champions League final in Getafe; and, of course, the UEFA Champions League final on Saturday 22 May.
This Champions Week conference has also been arranged to coincide with the inaugural UEFA Grassroots Day – a celebration of grassroots football across Europe, in the week of the most high-profile club fixture of the year. The concept and thinking behind it will be core elements of the conference.
Media representatives wishing to attend do not need specific accreditation, but will be asked to present press identification at the dedicated access point – Gate 55 – at the stadium.
