Jorge Jesus has been rewarded with a new contract at SL Benfica after leading the Lisbon side to their first Portuguese title in five years in his first season in charge.
The 55-year-old coach, once a midfielder for Benfica's arch-rivals Sporting Clube de Portugal, joined the Eagles in June 2009 after a successful season with SC Braga. This term, Benfica won the Portuguese League Cup, reached the UEFA Europa League quarter-finals and took the title by a five-point margin. His original contract ran until 2012, but the new deal will expire in 2013. As Portuguese champions, Benfica will start the 2010/11 UEFA Champions League in the group stage.
