Crvena Zvezda stay on course for double

FK Crvena Zvezda kept alive their hopes of a domestic double with a 3-0 Serbian Cup final triumph over FK Vojvodina on Wednesday.

Crvena Zvezda, who in March dismissed coach Vladimir Petrović and replaced him with the club's director of youth, Ratko Dostanić, trail Super League leaders FK Partizan by just a solitary point with three fixtures remaining – the first against their arch-rivals on Saturday. They go into that game having taken Partizan's cup crown, their first silverware since 2007 when they claimed a league and cup double.

They were deserved victors against Vojvodina having shown more imagination and created clearer openings throughout, Aleksandar Jevtić breaking the deadlock after 14 minutes with a header from a corner. Brazilian midfielder Cadú doubled Crvena Zvezda's lead midway through the second period having been left free in the penalty area and substitute Miloš Trifunović swiftly added further gloss.

For their part, Vojvodina, who are fifth and still harbour slim hopes of third spot and a place in the UEFA Europa League second qualifying round, did their best to play a counterattacking game but offered little besides two efforts from distance by captain Dragan Mrdja.
