København complete Danish title defence

Odense BK must settle for the runners-up spot in the Danish Super League for the second year in a row after FC København beat HB Køge 4-0 to successfully defend the title.

København were already virtually assured of their seventh championship in ten years before Wednesday's fixtures but had to bide their time despite a nine-point lead and vastly superior goal difference. A comfortable victory has given them a now unassailable 12-point cushion over OB, who have three games remaining to the leaders' two and are all but guaranteed second spot.

"We have been the most consistent team over the course of the season," said Danish international William Kvist. "We have a winning culture which has built through our seven championships and new players quickly adapt the mindset. Our next big goal is to qualify for the Champions League [group stages]." They will kick off their campaign in the second qualifying round this autumn.

FCK took a 16th-minute lead in Sjælland, Dame N'Doye connecting with Oscar Wendt's cross and heading in from close range. The Senegalese striker took his league tally for the season to 12 three minutes before the break after excellent build-up play involving César Santin.

The hosts were equally as dominant in the second half but they had to wait until the closing stages before they could be totally at ease. There were seven minutes remaining when Zdeněk Pospěch made it 3-0 from Thomas Kristensen's cross and Hjalte Nørregaard iced the cake two minutes into added time when he pounced on a mistake by the visiting defence to add a fourth.
