Navas injury hits Sevilla hopes

Jesús Navas could be sidelined until the end of April with a sprained ankle as the problems mount for Sevilla FC's ambitions of sealing a return to the UEFA Champions League.

Sevilla FC are still counting the cost of Saturday's 2-0 defeat by RCD Espanyol after confirming that Lautaro Acosta, Diego Capel and Jesús Navas all picked up injuries.

Navas was withdrawn midway through the first half in Barcelona after suffering a sprained ankle which is expected to keep him sidelined for three to four weeks. His hopes of going to the FIFA World Cup are therefore put into question, but Sevilla have other concerns as they look to earn a UEFA Champions League place having slipped behind RCD Mallorca to fifth over the weekend.

Those ambitions have been further hit by knocks to Acosta (strained hamstring) and Capel (strained adductors), with an initial prognosis of ten to 14 days out. They will certainly miss Tuesday's meeting with Xerez CD and, most likely, Sunday's trip to Villarreal CF. Sevilla's 2009/10 UEFA Champions League campaign was ended by PFC CSKA Moskva last week.
