• A banker, a UNICEF project manager and a businessman at various stages in his career, Şenes Erzik studied Business and Economics at Bosphorus University and was appointed to the board of the Turkish Football Association (TFF) for the first time in 1977.

• Şenes Erzik served as TFF president from 1989 to 1997, overseeing a period of progress which continued with Galatasaray AŞ winning the UEFA Cup and UEFA Super Cup in 2000. Two years later, Turkey finished third at the 2002 FIFA World Cup.

• Now honorary TFF president, the multilingual Erzik – who is married with one son – said: "If you ask me why I love football, it is because of a sense of teamwork. I like the passion, the successes and sharing with others the joys as well as the grievances and the disappointments. The football world is a great community." After 25 years on the UEFA Executive Committee, first as a member and then as vice-president for 21 years, and having served UEFA on various committees and bodies since 1982, Erzik retired from his UEFA duties at the XXXIX Ordinary UEFA Congress in Vienna in March 2015, and was named a UEFA honorary member.
