Manchester United FC forward Dimitar Berbatov has been crowned Bulgarian Player of the Year for a record-breaking sixth time, surpassing the mark established by 1994 Ballon d'Or winner Hristo Stoichkov.

Landmark goal
Berbatov, 28, won the League Cup and Premier League title with United in 2009, while on the international stage he became Bulgaria's all-time leading goalscorer when he took his tally to 49 goals with a double against Malta in November. The former Tottenham Hotspur FC, Bayer 04 Leverkusen and PFC CSKA Sofia striker topped the poll of 118 journalists with 218 points, seven ahead of Aston Villa FC's Stiliyan Petrov and over 100 clear of FC Terek Grozny midfielder Blagoy Georgiev.

Multiple winner
"I'm proud to have won the accolade for a sixth time," said Berbatov, also a winner in 2002, 2004, 2005, 2007 and 2008. "Last year was a successful one for me as I won the English title with Manchester United and I became Bulgaria's record goalscorer. This makes me smile." CSKA front man Spas Delev was named the APFG's Young Player of the Year.
