Germany have been presented with the Maurice Burlaz Trophy marking their achievements as the nation with the best results in UEFA youth competition over the last two years, taking both the Under-17 and U19 titles.
Germany glory
The chairman of the UEFA Youth and Amateur Football Committee, Grigoriy Surkis, presented the trophy, named after the former vice-chairman of the committee, to the German Football Association (DFB) technical director Mattias Sammer and DFB vice-president Dr Hans-Dieter Drewitz at Monday's 2010/11 UEFA European Under-17 and U19 Championship qualifying round draws in Nyon. Germany secured the U19 title in 2008 and lifted the U17 trophy on home soil this year.
Fair Play prizes
In addition, the captain of Germany's victorious U17 squad, Reinhold Yabo, received the 2008/09 Fair Play Trophy on behalf of his team, the ceremony also allowing tribute to be paid to the Switzerland side who were European semi-finalists in May but last month won the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Nigeria. The 2008/09 U19 Fair Play Trophy was presented to Serbia captain Slobodan Medojević, and as always he and Yabo assisted in the qualifying round draws.
