Olympique Lyonnais' 2-0 victory over RC Lens was enough to take them to the Ligue 1 summit after FC Girondins de Bordeaux's 21-match unbeaten streak had been ended with a 3-1 defeat by AS Saint-Etienne.
Seven-month run
Laurent Blanc's Bordeaux had not lost in any competition since a 3-0 reverse at Toulouse FC on 7 March, but faced an early deficit at St-Etienne through Gelson Fernandes's eight-minute strike. Ilan doubled the advantage before Jussiê converted a penalty midway through the second half to breathe life back into Bordeaux. Any such hope was extinguished, though, when Dimitri Payet found the target for St-Etienne four minutes into injury time and Lyon took full advantage in the late game, going a point clear of the titleholders thanks to goals from Sidney Govou and Kim Källström, both of whom were on the mark in the 4-0 UEFA Champions League triumph against Debreceni VSC in midweek.
Džodić double
Montpellier Hérault SC trail Claude Puel's leaders by three points after beating bottom-of-the-table Grenoble Foot 38 3-2, Nenad Džodić scoring twice to add to Victor Montaño's early opener. Olympique de Marseille can move back level with Montpellier if they beat AS Monaco FC in one of three Sunday fixtures.
Duo held
Fifth-placed Paris Saint-Germain FC and Stade Rennais FC, who sit one position lower, both dropped points. PSG came from behind to draw 1-1 against AS Nancy-Lorraine, while Rennes failed to recover from the 16th-minute dismissal of Carlos Bocanegra to suffer their second league defeat of the season, losing 1-0 at home to AJ Auxerre.
Nice comeback
OGC Nice staged a dramatic fightback, emerging victorious despite being two down to Valenciennes FC with 23 minutes remaining. Strikes from Chaouki Ben Saada and Olivier Echouafni and a David Ducourtioux own goal all arrived in a ten-minute window to earn Nice three points which help them climb to 17th. Le Mans UC 72 are one place lower following their 1-0 loss to FC Sochaux-Montbéliard.
