R. Standard de Liège midfielder Axel Witsel has been suspended for eight domestic matches after his tackle on RSC Anderlecht defender Marcin Wasilewski on Sunday.

Successful appeal
Witsel, 20, was sent off for the foul that left Wasilewski with a broken leg and was subsequently handed an eleven-game ban by the Belgian Football Association. Standard have since successfully appealed to have Witsel's suspension reduced by three matches, meaning he could be available for the home match against Club Brugge KV on November 7. Wasilewski could return to training in March, but is not expected to be in first-team contention for the remainder of the season.
