Sweden forward Linda Forsberg will miss UEFA WOMEN'S EURO 2009™ after withdrawing from the squad due to a thigh injury, with coach Thomas Dennerby calling up Petra Larsson as a replacement.
'Strategic decision'
LdB FC Malmö player Forsberg is only expected to be sidelined for the next two weeks, but with Sweden opening their Group C campaign against Russia on 25 August, uncapped Linköpings FC midfielder Larsson will be making the trip to Finland. "After all the injuries we've had, we've taken a look at the squad position by position to decide on the type of player we need," explained Dennerby. "The most uncertain player at the moment is Nilla Fischer, which is why we found we need to strengthen the squad with a player like Petra Larsson. It's a purely strategic decision. We haven't ranked the players outside the squad."
Fischer injury
Dennerby also confirmed that Fischer is still not ready for competitive action. "Midfielder Nilla Fischer has a sore heel so is not 100 per cent fit to play," he said. "She's receiving treatment for it." Unbeaten in 2009, Sweden complete their UEFA WOMEN'S EURO 2009™ preparations against Norway in Enkoping on 19 August.
