Sweden have called up defender Karin Lissel to their UEFA WOMEN'S EURO 2009™ squad after Linda Sembrant was ruled out by injury.
Lissel call
Sembrant, named in Thomas Dennerby's squad on 28 July, hurt her thigh in training on Wednesday and a scan the following afternoon confirmed that she would be unable to play for at least four weeks. In her place comes 22-year-old Hammarby IF DFF player Lissel, who made her senior debut in Sweden's penultimate friendly, a 2-0 home win against China on 19 July, and also came off the bench three days later during the 3-1 victory in Finland.
Dennerby explains
"Linda has meant a lot to our attacking game when she has played," Dennerby said. "Obviously we will miss her, but it is of course very sad for Linda herself." On Lissel's call the coach added: "Karin is the player who best fits the profile. She also did very well when she was called up at short notice to the matches in July." His side begin their Group C campaign against Russia on 25 August in Turku, where they then meet Italy and England.
