Italy coach Pietro Ghedin has made his 22-player selection for UEFA WOMEN'S EURO 2009™ in Finland later this month.
England opener
Goalkeeper Arianna Criscione, defender Maria Sorvillo and midfielders Alessia Cianci and Venusia Paliotti were the unfortunate players to be left out from the initial list of 26, with UEFA Women's Champions League contenders ASD CF Bardolino Verona and ASD Torres Calcio supplying six players each for the final squad. They begin their campaign against England in Lahti on 25 August, with games against Sweden and Russia to come in Group C.
Coach's thoughts
Ghedin told uefa.com that he took his decision "thinking about their experience and their ability to be a part of the group". He added: "I want the players to know that if they are here, it's because they deserve it, and they all have to take on their responsibility. They must remember that they're wearing the Italian colours and it's a great honour but also a responsibility."
