Manchester City FC have taken their summer spending past the €90m mark after completing the signing of Emmanuel Adebayor from Arsenal FC.

'Make history'
The Togolese international striker is reported to have cost in the region of €29m and has signed a five-year deal with Mark Hughes's side. "I can't wait to play for City's fans and show them what I can do," said Adebayor. "I was born to play football and that is what I want to do. I have come here to make history for this club and those supporters." The 25-year-old spent three and a half seasons with Arsenal after joining from AS Monaco FC, scoring 46 goals in 104 Premier League games.

Striking overhaul
Adebayor is the third high-profile forward to join the club this summer following Roque Santa Cruz and Carlos Tévez, while England international Gareth Barry has also swelled the ranks. "Emmanuel has been one of the top forwards in the Premier League since he arrived from France and we are delighted he has agreed to come and join us," said Hughes. "His arrival is another clear indication that we are determined to augment the players we have here with the best international talent. He adds vital balance and power to our attack. He has everything a top forward needs. He is versatile, powerful, quick and agile on the ball."
