Iceland striker Harpa Thorsteinsdóttir is out of UEFA WOMEN'S EURO 2009™ and midfielder Hallbera Gísladóttir is a doubt after both suffered broken limbs in club action on Sunday.

Injuries
Thorsteinsdóttir, capped 16 times, broke her leg in Breidablik's 2-1 Icelandic Cup semi-final defeat of Fylkir while Gísladóttir, with 14 appearances to her name and like her colleague aged 23, fractured an arm as Valur Reykjavík won their last-four tie 5-0 against Stjarnan. Soffia Gunnarsdóttir has replaced Thorsteinsdóttir in the provisional 40-strong squad – which coach Siggi Eyjólfsson expects to reduce to the requisite 22 early next week – but Gísladóttir has been retained for now as she can play with a wrist brace. Meanwhile an uncapped member of the extended party, 18-year-old Mist Edvardsdóttir, has broken her ankle.

'Shock'
Eyjólfsson, whose side beat England 2-0 in Colchester and lost 2-1 to Denmark in Staines earlier this month, said: "It was rather strange to receive news about three broken limbs in one day. We have a good selection to choose from but Harpa, who was in my last 20-player squad against England and Denmark, will be missed. It was shock for us all, especially for her missing six months. We still do not know if Hallbera will be ready but I wanted to keep her on the list. Anyway, life goes on and we will get a new player to fill the position." Iceland begin their finals campaign in Finland against France on 24 August.
