AFC Ajax, one of the Dutch representatives in the inaugural UEFA Europa League, have given their 20-year-old Belgian international defender Toby Alderweireld a four-year contract extension.

Nice start
Alderweireld has signed a new deal keeping him at the Amsterdam ArenA until 2014, having broken into the Ajax team following his Eredivisie debut against NEC Nijmegen in January. He played a total of five league matches and three UEFA Cup games, the latter involving ACF Fiorentina and Olympique de Marseille. "It is nice to start the season like this and, of course, it proves I did well last season," said Alderweireld, who was capped twice by Belgium in May. Ajax will start their latest European campaign in the play-off round of the UEFA Europa League.
