László Bölöni will mastermind R. Standard de Liège's UEFA Champions League group stage campaign next season, agreeing a new one-year contract with Les Rouches after leading them to a second successive Belgian title in 2008/09.
Another year
The 56-year-old former Romanian international has signed up for another 12 months with Standard, having joined the club last summer when Michel Preud'homme stepped down after leading them to their first league title in 25 years. A club statement read: "László Bölöni is happy to take on this new challenge and to continue his adventure with the club in Belgium as well as in Europe. He has signed a new contract for one season. Standard want to congratulate their coach and wish him every success."
European kudos
Bölöni's side narrowly missed out on a place in last season's UEFA Champions League group stage, losing to Liverpool FC after extra time in the third qualifying round, but impressed in the UEFA Cup before winning the Belgian title in a two-legged play-off against RSC Anderlecht. A European Champion Clubs' Cup winner with FC Steaua Bucureşti in 1986, Bölöni previously coached AS Nancy-Lorraine, Romania, Sporting Clube de Portugal, Stade Rennais FC, AS Monaco FC and, prior to joining Standard, Al-Jazeera from the United Arab Emirates.
