FC Pyunik completed an Armenian double on Sunday, with Henrikh Mkhitaryan scoring the only goal late on in the cup final against FC Banants. "With respect to our opponents, we deserved it more," he said.
Upper hand
Pyunik had the upper hand throughout the game, despite being reduced to ten men by Edgar Malakyan's dismissal just after the break. The numbers were evened up eight minutes from time when Banants' Ugandan midfielder Noah Kasule was also dismissed, and the league champions took full advantage with Gevorg Gazaryan setting up Mkhitaryan for the added-time winner. "We started brightly, but calmed down later and found ourselves outnumbered but in the end luck was on our side," said Mkhitaryan, 20. " With respect to our opponents, we deserved to win it more." Pyunik coach Vardar Minasyan added: "There were a lot of young players on both sides and many of them are the future of the Armenian national team. This proves that Armenian football is moving in the right direction."
