Paris Saint-Germain FC have decided against extending Paul Le Guen's contract even though the coach has the capital club challenging for a UEFA Champions League position in the upper reaches of France's Ligue 1.

Paris Saint-Germain FC have announced that coach Paul Le Guen's contract will not be renewed when it expires on 30 June.

All change
The French club have decided against extending Le Guen's deal even though the former Olympique Lyonnais and Rangers FC boss has them flying high in fourth place in Ligue 1. PSG said the move marked the beginning of their preparations for next season, adding that Le Guen's successor would be named "in the coming weeks".

Chasing third
Le Guen replaced Guy Lacombe at the PSG helm in January 2007 and last season led the Parc des Princes outfit to French League Cup glory. This term his side still have a chance of getting third position and a place in the UEFA Champions League play-offs for 2009/10, as they sit just one point behind Olympique Lyonnais, the current tenants. With four games to play, PSG are another seven points short of joint league leaders Olympique de Marseille and FC Girondins de Bordeaux.

Lyon joy
After serving his coaching apprenticeship with Stade Rennais FC, the 45-year-old trainer oversaw three French championship triumphs with Lyon before a shorter, less successful stay at Rangers in Scotland. As a player, he was part of PSG's UEFA Cup Winners' Cup-winning team of 1996.
