FC Girondins de Bordeaux pulled level with Olympique de Marseille at the Ligue 1 summit after a comfortable 3-0 win over FC Sochaux-Montbéliard but Paris Saint-Germain FC spurned the chance to climb into third as they went down 1-0 to Stade Rennais FC.
Early goals
Goal difference is all that separates Marseille from second-placed Bordeaux as Laurent Blanc's men raised the temperature in the French title race with their sixth consecutive victory. Teenage midfielder Grégory Sertic made the first incursion for the hosts, curling the ball into the far corner after collecting Matthieu Chalmé's cutback on seven minutes. The same provider then set up Yoann Gourcuff to head in Bordeaux's second after a quarter of an hour and Marouane Chamakh headed in their third just before full time, by which stage Sochaux had lost Rabiu Afolabi to a late red card.
Own goal
PSG could have hoisted themselves to within five points of the top two but once again failed to get the better of one of Ligue 1's more talented sides. Mamadou Sakho's own goal with 65 minutes gone revived Rennes's hopes of competing in Europe next term, with the Brittany outfit four points shy of fifth and a spot in the UEFA Europa League third qualifying round. In the lower reaches, meanwhile, FC Nantes suffered a damaging 2-1 home loss to bottom club Le Havre AC, who nonetheless remain nine points from safety. Nantes lie 18th, with their inferior goal difference keeping them beneath Sochaux.
