Gourcuff signs up for Bordeaux future

FC Girondins de Bordeaux's Jean-Louis Triaud said he was "the happiest president in the world" after securing the services of the talismanic Yoann Gourcuff on a permanent basis from AC Milan for a fee of around €15m.

FC Girondins de Bordeaux have received a timely boost ahead of Saturday's Ligue 1 title decider at SM Caen after signing midfield talisman Yoann Gourcuff on a permanent basis from AC Milan, with the deal reportedly worth €15m.

Massive lift
The 22-year-old French international playmaker has made a huge impression at Stade Chaban-Delmas since arriving on loan from the Rossoneri last summer – providing much of the impetus that has driven Laurent Blanc's men to the brink of their sixth national title. A point at struggling Caen this weekend will ensure they pip Olympique de Marseille to the championship, and they will approach the game in high spirits after triggering a buy-out option on Gourcuff who will have a four-year contract.

'Strong bond'
"I'm the happiest president in the world," said Bordeaux chief Jean-Louis Triaud after securing the services of the man named 2008/09 Ligue 1 Player of the Year last Sunday. Gourcuff added: "My decision to stay was formed throughout the season. We have managed to create the conditions for real success and formed strong bonds within the squad – I'm delighted to have the opportunity to continue what I have started with Les Girondins." Bordeaux have already claimed the French Super Cup and French League Cup this season.
