FC Girondins de Bordeaux need just a draw from their final Ligue 1 outing to be crowned champions after maintaining their three-point lead over Olympique de Marseille with a 1-0 win against AS Monaco FC, while their closest rivals triumphed 2-1 at AS Nancy-Lorraine to keep their fading title dream alive.
Chamakh winner
Laurent Blanc's side rode their luck against Monaco and could easily have conceded were it not for some poor finishing from the visitors. They made the breakthrough via Marouane Chamakh (34), the Moroccan international heading in Yoann Gourcuff's cross for his 13th strike this term, and despite retreating after that they held on to leave themselves huge favourites to celebrate a first title win since 1998/99 at SM Caen next Saturday.
Juninho milestone
Should Bordeaux lose that match, however, Marseille would leapfrog them by defeating visitors Stade Rennais FC. Erik Gerets's men left themselves that chance courtesy of a Damián Macaluso own goal (31) and a 55th-minute Brandão effort. Those strikes also secured a UEFA Champions League group stage place for OM next season, while Olympique Lyonnais are assured of a play-off berth in the same competition following a 3-1 success against Caen in which Juninho Pernambucano scored his 100th goal for the club.
Relegation intrigue
Paris Saint-Germain FC slipped to fifth as they lost 2-1 at Valenciennes FC, a result that allowed Toulouse FC to climb up to fourth by prevailing 2-0 at OGC Nice. In the tussle to avoid relegation, FC Nantes remain three points from safety after losing 2-1 at FC Sochaux-Montbéliard, who lifted themselves out of the drop zone as a result. AS Saint-Etienne dropped back into trouble with a 1-0 setback at AJ Auxerre and they trail Caen on goal difference, while Le Mans UC 72 are not safe yet in 16th following a 1-1 draw with Grenoble Foot 38. In the day's other games, LOSC Lille Métropole won 1-0 at already-relegated Le Havre AC and Rennes beat FC Lorient 3-1.
