Spanish referee Luis Medina Cantalejo has been appointed by the UEFA Referees Committee to take charge of Wednesday's UEFA Cup final between FC Shakhtar Donetsk and Werder Bremen at the Fenerbahçe Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadium.
All-Spanish lineup
At the final in Istanbul, Cantalejo will be assisted by three compatriots. Jesús Calvo Guadamuro and Roberto Díaz Pérez Del Palomar will be the assistant referees, and the fourth official will be Alfonso Perez Burrull, also of Spain.
Experienced campaigner
Seville-born Medina Cantalejo, who is 45 and a married father of three, has been an international referee since 2002, officiating in 45 UEFA matches in his refereeing career. He has refereed six UEFA Champions League games this season, including, among others, the quarter-final return leg between Chelsea FC and Liverpool FC at Stamford Bridge and the first knockout round first leg between FC Internazionale Milano and Manchester United FC in Milan.
