Sergio Da Costa, Aleksandr Erokhin and Viktor Trukhanov were on target for the Tiraspol club, who also secured the league title in Otaci last season. FC Dacia Chişinãu were the only club able to end Sheriff's monopoly but they lost 2-1 at FC Dinamo Bender, leaving them 15 points behind with four rounds of fixtures remaining. With the Commonwealth Cup – a tournament for the champions of former Soviet states – already secured, and Sheriff 2-1 up against FC Tiraspol following the first leg of their Moldovan Cup semi-final, Leonid Kuchuk's squad are on the verge of their most successful season since the club was formed 12 years ago. Sheriff will enter the 2009/10 UEFA Champions League in the second qualifying round.
