Brandão's late intervention sealed a dramatic comeback win for Olympique de Marseille as the Ligue 1 leaders moved two points clear by prevailing 2-1 at FC Lorient, with FC Girondins de Bordeaux now second after they downed Olympique Lyonnais 1-0.
Winning sequence
Erik Gerets's men seemed to be suffering the aftereffects of their UEFA Cup exit to FC Shakhtar Donetsk as they fell behind to Kevin Gameiro's opener with just seven minutes gone. Despite that blow, the visitors soon began dominating and equalised a minute before the hour mark when centre-back Renato Civelli pounced after a Sylvain Wiltord effort had been saved. With eleven minutes remaining, OM then took the lead through their Brazilian winter signing, his goal sealing a fifth consecutive league victory – although not before Marseille captain Lorik Cana and Lorient's Arnaud Le Lan had both been dismissed.
Diarra decisive
Unable to respond to that win, seven-time champions Lyon slipped to third, four points off the top, after suffering their sixth reverse this term. Bordeaux had failed to beat the Rhône side at the Stade Chaban-Delmas since 1999 but put in a fantastic performance to add to the building excitement in the title race, Alou Diarra making the difference three minutes before the interval after a superb shot from Wendel came back off a post. Lyon now lie just a point clear of their next opponents, Paris Saint-Germain FC, who climbed up to fourth with a 3-0 victory against Le Havre AC. Ludovic Giuly, Jérôme Rothen and Guillaume Hoarau grabbed the goals, the latter taking his tally to 17 in the league this season.
