Article body
FC Salzburg's Marc Janko is setting a punishing pace in the race to win this season's ESM Golden Shoe, with Samuel Eto'o leading the chasing pack in the race to be crowned as Europe's most dangerous goalscorer.
Incredible record
With 30 goals in 20 Austrian Bundesliga games, Janko has already breezed past Oliver Bierhoff's club record of 23 goals in a single campaign, and is now competing with marksmen from Europe's top leagues for the prize which was won by Manchester United FC's Cristiano Ronaldo. Eto'o's 19 goals for FC Barcelona translate into 38 points leaving him second in the rankings, but it is hard to see third-placed Vedad Ibišević improving on his ranking, with the Bosnia-Herzegivnian striker unlikely to play for German league leaders TSG 1899 Hoffenheim again this season after damaging cruciate ligaments in a recent friendly. uefa.com will bring you the latest updates on the Golden Shoe rankings every Monday as the competition heats up in the spring.

Only the leading five countries (Spain, Italy, Germany, France and England) on the UEFA Ranking have two as their multiplier. This is to emphasise the difference in (international) performance level between the clubs from those countries and those from the other nations.
A player cannot first play in a summer league (eg Norway) and then in a winter league (eg Spain) and combine the points total for each season.
