Defender Hrvoje Vejić, part of Croatia's squad at UEFA EURO 2008™,has returned to former club HNK Hajduk Split after opting not to extend his contract at Russian side FC Tom Tomsk.

Championship ambition
Vejić, 31, moved to Tomsk from Hajduk in 2005 having previously made 138 appearances for the Split outfit, winning league titles in his last two seasons; the club have not claimed the championship since. He has signed a three-and-a-half year contract and said: "Family reasons led me to sign for Hajduk. I wanted to return home because of my family and Hajduk was the best option. I left after winning two consecutive titles, I hope I will repeat that success." Hajduk lie second in the Croatian league, one point behind NK Dinamo Zagreb at the winter break.
