Perhaps not surprisingly there is a Spanish flavour to Marcos Senna's team of 2008. Steven Gerrard, Rio Ferdinand and John Terry make the cut, but otherwise the Villarreal CF midfielder has kept faith with his UEFA EURO 2008™-winning team-mates. Can you argue with that? Senna was choosing from the 60 nominees for the uefa.com users' Team of 2008. To vote for your best XI, click here.

Goalkeeper: Iker Casillas (Real Madrid CF)
He won EURO 2008 with Spain and was decisive earlier the year, when Real Madrid won the league. For me he is the best keeper in Europe.

Right-back: Sergio Ramos (Real Madrid CF)
This was not an easy choice, but I think he deserves to be elected as he was a starter for Spain and played well for Real Madrid all year long. He is strong and very good offensively.

Central Defenders: Rio Ferdinand (Manchester United FC) and John Terry (Chelsea FC)
Both played in the Champions League final and they are symbols, leaders of their teams. I have always appreciated Ferdinand’s game in particular and he deserves to be in my starting XI.

Left-back: Joan Capdevila (Villarreal CF)
I am a big fan of Joan. Apart from being a great left-back, he is one of my best friends and is a great team player. He is always entertaining the dressing room.

Right midfield: Steven Gerrard (Liverpool FC)
For me he is the most complete player among the candidates for right midfield.

Central midfield: Marcos Senna (Villarreal CF)
Well, if I pick myself it will guarantee that I have at least one vote for the defensive midfielder job. It's not easy to be in the same list as Xavi!

Attacking midfield: Cesc Fàbregas (Arsenal FC)
This is a tough position to choose just one player. I will stick with my Spanish friends, as I think Cesc did a great job in EURO 2008 and has a great future in football.

Left midfield: Andrés Iniesta (FC Barcelona)

It is so easy to play alongside Iniesta, he makes his team-mates better and he's improved a lot during 2008. He's become a very, very important player for Barcelona and Spain.

Forwards: David Villa (Valencia CF) and Fernando Torres (Liverpool FC)
I don’t know if they are the best strikers in the world, but I do know that they were paired in the most important attack of the year. Villa was top scorer at EURO and Torres scored the winning goal in the final. I will keep them together in my team.

Coach: Luis Aragonés (Spain)
Needless to say much about my choice. I really like the man and the way he works.
