Ashley Young scored twice, including a superb winner with 12 seconds to play after Everton FC had equalised in added time, as Aston Villa FC reclaimed fifth place by winning 3-2 at Goodison Park on Sunday.
Landmark goal
There was drama from first minute to last, with Steve Sidwell having set Villa on their way by scoring with just over 30 seconds gone – the fastest goal of the Premier League season. David Moyes's side then drew level on the half-hour when Joleon Lescott turned the ball in from close range after a Mikel Arteta free-kick from the left had been flicked on by Marouane Fellaini.
Acrobatic finish
The tall Belgian twice went close to giving Everton the advantage with headed efforts either side of half-time, something Young did for Villa on 54 minutes when latching on to Phil Jagielka's poorly-judged back-pass and curling in. Lescott equalised for a second time in added time with an acrobatic finish, but he was beaten by the skill and speed of Young seconds later as the winger cut inside and drilled in his second of the night.
Villa climb
The win moves Villa on to 28 points, one fewer than fourth-placed Arsenal FC, while Everton drop a place to eighth after Portsmouth FC came from behind to earn a point at West Bromwich Albion FC thanks to Peter Crouch's deflected drive in the 58th minute. Captain Jonathan Greening had given the bottom club the lead six minutes before the break.
