A second-half Sulley Muntari strike proved enough for FC Internazionale Milano to beat Juventus in the derby d'Italia on Saturday and ease the champions four points clear at the top of Serie A, while ACF Fiorentina scored four times after the interval to defeat Udinese Calcio 4-2.
Manninger stops
Juve's ambitions of leaving the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza with an eighth consecutive victory in all competitions never looked realistic as goalkeeper Alexander Manninger again proved a worthy replacement for the injured Gianluigi Buffon with a number of key stops. The Austrian No1 twice denied Muntari in the first half, and enjoyed a slice of fortune as Zlatan Ibrahimović's recent rich vein of form deserted him when he wasted two clear-cut chances.
Inter fortune
It was the Swede's misfortune which would ultimately prove the undoing of his former club as his miscued shot fell kindly for Muntari to beat Manninger 19 minutes from time. Inter goalkeeper Júlio César produced a fine save to block an Alessandro Del Piero header late on to give José Mourinho's side breathing space at the top, though AC Milan can narrow the gap to a point if they beat Torino FC in Sunday's late kick-off.
Sparkling Viola
In Florence, the Viola warmed up perfectly for the visit of Olympique Lyonnais on Tuesday by producing a sparkling second-half display after falling behind to Antonio Floro Flores's 29th-minute opener. Adrian Mutu chipped in a cheeky penalty to level the scores six minutes into the second half before Riccardo Montolivo scored his first two goals of the season and Alberto Gilardino added a fourth. Home defender Gianluca Comotto was sent off for handling the ball on the line with seven minutes remaining, allowing Antonio Di Natale to reduce the deficit but Fiorentina's work was done.
