ACF Fiorentina have announced the signing of striker Alberto Gilardino from AC Milan for an undisclosed fee.
Fresh start
The 25-year-old Gilardino, who has been capped 25 times by Italy, saw his appearances in his last season at Milan limited once Brazilian forward Pato had broken into the side in January. Gilardino joined the Rossoneri from Parma FC in 2005 and scored 29 Serie A goals in his first two seasons at San Siro. At Fiorentina, with whom he has reportedly signed a four-year contract, he will be reunited with his former Parma coach Cesare Prandelli and strike partner Adrian Mutu. Gilardino scored 23 goals in both 2003/04 and 2004/05 while at the Stadio Tardini. Milan missed out on a place in next season's UEFA Champions League after finishing fifth in Serie A, one place behind a Fiorentina outfit who will begin Europe's premier club competition in the third qualifying round.
