Double celebration
Having beaten Hapoel Tel-Aviv FC 5-4 on penalties in the Israeli Cup final, Beitar comfortably overcame second-placed Netanya, with an Aviram Baruchyan penalty and goals from Michael Zandberg and Toto Tamuz to take an unassailable nine-point lead at the top of the table. Victory completed a famous day for the Gaydamak family, with Beitar owner Arkady taking the Israel title the same day as Portsmouth FC, owned by his son Alexandre, claimed the FA Cup in England. Beitar will start their 2008/09 UEFA Champions League campaign in the second qualifying round.
