Play-off place
The victory means France are of assured of at least a play-off place for the finals in Finland, but they are pushing for an automatic berth as they lead an Iceland team who have three games in hand by nine points. Once again in this topsy-turvy section, things did not initially go to form as Serbia, propping up the group with three points from five games going into this fixture, held firm amid heavy rain in Brittany.
Solo effort
Their resistance was broken on 53 minutes, though, as Olympique Lyonnais forward Brétigny finally broke the deadlock with an individual effort. Eighteen minutes later, she converted a cross from club-mate Louisa Nécib to seal the points. France are now not in action until 27 September when a home success against Iceland would earn them a finals berth whatever their group rivals do in their intervening outings.
