Feyenoord won the Dutch Cup on Sunday when first-half goals by Denny Landzaat and Jonathan de Guzman secured a 2-0 victory over Roda JC at De Kuip in Rotterdam.

Never tested
Landzaat converted a Luigi Bruins cross from close range after eight minutes before De Guzman doubled the lead in the 36th minute following a neat one-two with Michael Mols. Feyenoord allowed Roda to dominate large parts of the match but despite some efforts from long distance, the 'home' defence were never seriously tested. Having only finished sixth in the league, the Rotterdam outfit can now look forward to the UEFA Cup next season.

Perfect goodbye
"It's great to say goodbye with the cup and European football," said Feyenoord coach Bert van Marwijk, ending his second spell at the club before he takes the reins of the Dutch national side after UEFA EURO 2008™. "We didn't play very well, but we scored at the right times, and after we went 2-0 up not much happened in front of either goal. Everyone expected us to win, but that's easier said than done with so much pressure. But now it feels really good to say goodbye like this."

Drought over
The win gave Feyenoord their eleventh cup success and first since 1995, as well as ending a six-year spell without a trophy. Their last was the UEFA Cup in 2002, won by Van Marwijk during his first stint, and the club can now celebrate their centenary on 19 July with some silverware. Runners-up Roda must play off against FC Utrecht, FC Groningen and NEC Nijmegen for the remaining spot in the UEFA Cup, meanwhile.
