'Great motivation'
The Manchester United FC winger beat off competition from Liverpool FC duo Fernando Torres and Steven Gerrard, Arsenal FC pair Cesc Fabregas and Emmanuel Adebayor, as well as Portsmouth FC's David James to claim the title for the second successive season. "I feel very happy. It is a great moment, it is an honour," said Ronaldo, who becomes only the second player after Thierry Henry to claim back-to-back awards. "When you work all season to play good, to do something for the team, and then at the end of the season the PFA give you this award, it is a great motivation to carry on."
Fabregas prize
The 23-year-old accepted the trophy from United manager Sir Alex Ferguson, and though he was pipped by Fabregas for the Young Player of the Year award the man with 38 goals in all competitions to his name this campaign thought the bigger prize went to the right person. "I voted for Adebayor because I think he has had a great season as well," he said. "But you have many players who have had a good season - Torres, Fabregas, many players. But I think I deserve to win!"
