A first-half strike from Tinga was added to after the break by Diego Klimowicz – 20 minutes after Jena's Jan Simak was dismissed for his second booking – and Mladen Petrić. In front of a competition record crowd of 80,708, Dortmund took control from the off and were rewarded for their positive start 13 minutes in when Tinga dispatched the rebound after Petrić's header was saved by Jena goalkeeper Vasili Khomutovski. The Bundesliga giants then seemed content to sit back on their lead but the visitors failed to take advantage, Simak's effort moments before the interval the best Jena could produce.

The Czech playmaker was then dismissed for his second booking six minutes after the restart and Dortmund duly made their numerical superiority count on 71 minutes when Klimowicz tucked away the loose ball after Florian Kringe's shot was pushed out by Khomutovski. And Borussia made absolutely certain of their place in the 19 April showpiece when Petrić latched on to a header by Sebastian Kehl to score his side's third three minutes from time. The second semi-final between FC Bayern München and VfL Wolfsburg takes place on Wednesday night.
