Maes moves Belgium upwards

Wales 0-1 Belgium
Belgium moved up to third in Group 4 after a Femke Maes goal gave them victory in Wales.

Belgium moved up to third in UEFA WOMEN'S EURO 2009™ qualifying Group 4 after a Femke Maes goal gave them victory in Wales.

Winner
It was a tight game, but Belgium had the better of the play against a side still without a point on their return to top-level women's football. Janice Cayman was denied by Wales goalkeeper Nicola Davies at the end of the first half and although Jayne Ludlow came close at the other end, Maes broke the deadlock with a neat chip after good work from Aline Zeler.

Play-off race
An equaliser nearly came when Jessica Fishlock's cross was nearly turned into her own net by Heleen Jacues. But Anna Noë's side held on for their second straight 1-0 win against Wales, putting them two points ahead of the Netherlands and one behind second-placed Switzerland – two teams that visit Belgium in April in games which should prove crucial in the race for the play-offs.
