Portugal remain without a victory in UEFA WOMEN'S EURO 2009™ qualifying Group 5 after succumbing to a 1-0 home defeat by Slovakia.
Early goal
Portugal began badly in Rio Maior and Slovakia were a goal to the good within 12 minutes as Andrea Budosova converted Helena Schleiferova's assist. This spurred the home team into action and Edite Fernandes went close three minutes later after a pass from Emily Lima.
Portugal winless
Slovakia almost extended their lead after 34 minutes when Lucia Ondrušová struck the post, although at the other end Edite forced Lenka Gazdíková into a good save. Slovakia were content to sit on their advantage and hit Portugal on the counterattack after the break, while the hosts continued to press without reward. Portugal stay bottom of Group 5; Slovakia have climbed into third place, behind Denmark on goal difference having played three games more.
