Eredivisie high-fliers FC Groningen have secured FIFA U-20 World Cup winner Matías Cahais on a long-term loan from CA Boca Juniors.
'Best choice'
The 20-year-old centre-back will spend the next 18 months with Groningen, who will have the option to make the deal permanent for an undisclosed fee, with Cahais then to sign a four-year contract. "Players like Romário, Ronaldo, Julio Cruz and Luis Suárez have started their European careers in the Netherlands," said Cahais, who captained Argentina to victory in the U20 World Cup in Canada last July. "The Eredivisie is an excellent step up to the big European leagues. Real Madrid [CF] had the first option to sign me, but I prefer to do it step by step. Groningen are the best choice for me at the moment."
