Toulouse too good for Lyon

Toulouse FC warmed up for their UEFA Champions League showdown with Liverpool FC with a dramatic 1-0 win against Ligue 1 champions Olympique Lyonnais.

Källströmdismissed
Johan Elmander got the only goal of the game in the final minute to send the French champions crashing to their first defeat of the season. Lyon played nearly an hour with ten men after Kim Källström was sent off, but they looked likely to escape with a draw until Elmander struck at the death to earn Toulouse their first points. The Swedish international played a neat one-two with Rémy Vercoutre after a precise pass from Achille Emana and fired in low from six metres.

Cris concern
Toulouse, who also took four points off Lyon last season, made up for their opening day defeat by Valenciennes FC and will take plenty of confidence from the result as they prepare for the visit of Liverpool in the third qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday. Defeat for Lyon, who came closest when Kader Keita struck the post on 65 minutes, was compounded by a knee injury to their captain Cris who was taken off on the hour after a challenge on Elmander.

Perfect records
Le Mans UC 72, AS Nancy-Lorraine and FC Girondins de Bordeaux all boast perfect records after two rounds. Geraldo Mauricio Wendel scored twice as Bordeaux won 2-0 at AJ Auxerre. Toifilou Maoulida missed two penalties for the Burgundy side who are still looking for their first points. Le Mans are top in France, on goal difference, for the first time in their short history after they sprung a surprise on their travels with a 3-1 win at FC Sochaux-Montbéliard - Túlio De Melo grabbing a hat-trick. Kim got the only goal of the game for Nancy who defeated SM Caen. Elsewhere, Olympique de Marseille are still looking for their first win after being held to a goalless draw at home by Stade Rennais FC, FC Lorient defeated AS Monaco FC 2-1, AS Saint-Etienne won 3-1 at home to Valenciennes FC and one goal was enough for OGC Nice to overcome RC Strasbourg.
