Aubey focuses on Lens future

French side RC Lens have swooped to give defender Lucien Aubey a new start after he left UEFA Champions League hopefuls Toulouse FC for an estimated €2m fee.

The 23-year-old made 148 league appearances over five campaigns with Toulouse, but only 16 of those came last season. The recent arrival of Hérita Ilunga at the Stadium Municipal appeared to have pushed Aubey further down the pecking order as Les Pitchounes look forward to the UEFA Champions League third qualifying round next month. "This move is a relief," said Aubey. "I needed a fresh challenge." Aubey will at least compete on the European stage with Lens in the UEFA Intertoto Cup third round. Success against Ukraine's FC Chornomorets Odesa or Belarus' FC Shakhtyor Soligorsk will send them into the second qualifying round of the UEFA Cup.
